  • Rant time.

I have stated in various places that this is not a fansite, ergo I will only lick Derren's arse if I think he is deserved of it, but if I think he is an arsehole, I will say so.

    And this is arsehole time.

The following is lifted directly from Derren's Official site to preserve in hyperspace:

Are you a talented web designer?

It's been a while since derrenbrown.co.uk was launched and Derren thinks it's about time it had a bit of a face lift and start afresh.

The web geniuses that are Nameless are already looking into it though Derren is also interested in seeing what other talent in the web world there is out there.

We're looking for a web designer/agency that would be happy to work pro-bono and could really see the success of working with Derrenbrown.co.uk raise their professional profiles. If you're up for it then please submit a portfolio, PDF or your own website (ideally with a few URLs which you think show off your talents the best) to:

    marc@derrenbrown.co.uk

Please - professional designers only or if you're a recent grad with exceptional talent and a few projects under your belt already then we're interested in hearing from you too. Flash, some action-scripting, CSS, HTML all that malarky is essential as is the ability to carry the project from concept to completed working website with no bugs!

Pro-bono? This is an April Fools joke, right? Or is this what comes with marginal TV success and one is surrounded by habitual arse-lickers? It is suddenly perfectly normal to demand for professional services for free? You know, a well paid magician suddenly ‘misplaces’ his wallet. It’s not like a website is a self-promotion tool. No, not at all.

Derren doesn't want the average Joe-I-sit-in-my-bedroom-and-make- websites-for-fun-Jones. Nor does he want someone just starting out in the webmonkey business. No, he wants a professional agency to commit to a large undertaking. If you need that then you source that and pay their rates. It's THAT simple.

This site - which incidentally sits highly in Google search page results - is the product of someone working in finance who doesn't get to even scratch their creative brain cell for two minutes during working hours. This, and my other 'extra curricular' activities, are just an outlet when the pricing of stocks and shares becomes a little too mundane. But every day I marvel at the number of people who stumble across this website thinking it is Derren's. It's not the content that makes the surfers believe this is the real McCoy. No, it's just the first site people come to from Goolge that they can navigate to find some useful information from, leading to the false assumption.

This is just a silly, stupid site. But if I were a professional/successful person with the absolute need to advertise myself or my products then I would navigate to the standard and usual outlets.

Derren - your site shows that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Learn from it, you cheapskate bastard.

2nd May 2008

  • Derren's new series, Trick or Treat 2, starts tonight, 2nd May, 2008 on Channel 4 at 10p.m.. There will be six episodes where members of the public - and David Tennant - are 'ambushed' by Derren, sign a contract in blood - OK, red ink - and taken on a voyage of self-discovery by the Magic Man after choosing either a 'Trick' or a 'Treat'.
  • Derren's official website has announced that Derren will be releasing a new book to the public, which they are hoping to have out in time for Christmas. All boys and girls who have been bad this year need not apply. Titleless Book will be a break from Derren's usual material, featuring all his lovely freaky portrait paintings.

21st March 2008

  • Again, more than a little while since the last update. I've updated the TV programmes page, products page and spruced a couple of things up.
  • Derren released a book intended for the general public, titled Tricks of the Mind. This is what the man himself says about his latest book:

"Magic isn't about fakes and switches and dropping coins into your lap. It's about entering into a relationship with a person whereby you can lead him, economically and deftly, to experience an event as magical" - Derren Brown

Told with humour and honesty, Tricks of the Mind reveals:

    • the techniques of several mystifying magic tricks
    • Brown's personal views on religion and atheism.
    • the mix of honesty and trickery that magic demands
    • what goes into his ground-breaking television work
    • the truth behind practices such as the Ouija Board
    • the paranormal industry, exposes a few charlatans and looks at why some of us feel the need to believe in it in the first place...
    • memory techniques, hypnosis and Neurolinguistic Programming
    • how to read clues and spot lies in people's behaviour
  • To purchase Tricks of the Mind one should visit Amazon or other good booksellers.

  • Derren's now touring. See below for his tour dates. In addendum to the national tour, Derren has also extended Mind Reader - An Evening Of Wonders to include a West End stint from 2nd May to 7th June inclusive at the Garrick Theatre.

28th November 2005

  • I haven't bothered to update for a while now, so let's see what the old man has been up to...

  • For starters Derren was a special guest at the 34th International Magic Convention where he gave an interview, showed some clips of his new series and did a question and answers session. But less about Derren, I want to talk about Arthur Trace. His presentation of his Sunday piece was brilliant and performance captivating. Are you listening Channel 4/5? Brilliant. I also loved Kostya Kimlet's competition piece - for me he was the most memorable and is someone I'd like to see more of. Wow, he has a personality, something, for me at least, was not present throughout some of the other routines. Shame he didn't win. I must admit, however, during the change over time my friend and I were having bets as to whether the next routine to come would be a cups and balls or coin routine. I could have cried. It maybe technically challenging but it's boring, boring, boring. Right, got that out of my system!

  • Derren has announced the dates for his 2006 tour, however, it must be stressed that this is the same show as he toured with last year. The dates have been directly lifted from Derren's site, so for visit there for terms, conditions, more accurate information and some sort of albatross subliminal curse that will make you wet the bed during full moons.

  • Derren was busy filming his third series of Trick of the Mind during his West End run and is set to air during about March of next year, to coincide with his national tour.

There has also been some media coverage of Derren's fifth... is it his fifth...? special, which will be The Heist and will be probably have something to do with a Derren Brown Motivation group and a bank robbery. Throw in some aspects of Cypher and you may be 5% closer to what may actually be going on... or you could visit here for more information. The Heist is set to air in December.

6th August 2005

  • Pah. So much for letting this site come to an end! Currently people keep asking me to make websites for them and I, unwisely, agree; only problem is that lack of content from some - you all know who you are - so in a moment of madness I redesigned the site... again. I haven't decided if I like it of not. If you don't, tough.
  • Any news on the Derren front? No idea. If you are really interested, have a wade through the drivel currently circulating on the dbforum. What's that smell, you ask? Apathy.

29th June 2005

  • I have been very busy lately and I was going to let this site come to it's natural end, but I hate out of date sites and therefore I've updated it. There are quite a few extra articles in the interviews section, as well as the latest radio interview files. I've also added a few extra pieces to the My Thoughts section.
  • I have also made a site for the Fanbook Spasm gave Derren. For more details visit Fanbook.co.uk.
  • Derren has also got his new Flash site up and running. To visit, click here

20th May 2005

  • Derren left this message on his forum. I think it is set to air at 10pm.

"Apologies for not letting you guys know sooner - we haven't had a minute. "The Gathering" is Derren's new special and goes out on the 29th May on C4. It is a recording of a special live performance, which is made up largely of parts of the first half of last year's stage show (for anyone who saw it). Will anyone who was involve please refrain from posting ANY details about the show until it's been broadcast - thank you!

Derren has been rehearsing it, and recorded it, on his days off from the tour. He doesn't stop.

    Hope you like it."

29th April 2005

  • It has arrived. It's finally here. Inside Your Ears: A Derren Brown Fanthology has been compiled by Mr. Twain and can be freely downloaded from InsideYourEars.co.uk

The CD is absolutely fantastic and actually rather addictive. It has been on repeat for several days on my computer already. Even my song is on there - my mother will be so proud (or maybe not).

The CD art work was produced by Single Serving Jack. He is a fantastic artist and has just made a website SingleServingJack.com where it is possible to buy original and prints of his brilliant work.

  • Those of you who have visited my site before may have noticed something a little different. What is it, what is it? Is it bugging you yet? OK, I relent; I have updated the style of the website. It wasn't too aesthetically pleasing before and looked as though it been stuck in an eighty's time warp. Hopefully this format should be easier on the eyes as well as easier to navigate. Please don't complain about a lack of a new photos page; I still need to write that. I also need to write a lab report and revise for my exams so the photos page may not be updated for a little while. Oh, I'm sure all you teenage girly fans are devastated. If this news has left you feeling suicidal, please contact the Samaritans ;)
  • The Trick of the Mind DVD has been released and can be purchased from all good DVD retailers. Come on, you know where to go, I'm not providing any more free advertising.
  • Continue watching E4 at 10.30pm on Mondays and Channel Four on Fridays at 9.30 for the current series of Trick of the Mind II.

9th April 2005

  • Derren's new series, Trick of the Mind is set to preview on E4 on the 11th April and will be shown on Channel Four on the 15th April. I'm sure this new series will be excellent, especially given its large budget, so expect some larger effects and some well known faces; be sure to tune in.

3rd March 2005

  • Members of Derren's Official Forum are producing a CD which has a general DB theme running through it. Visit here for more details or here for the thread. More details about where to download the final article and track listings will follow shortly.

12th February 2005

  • An old interview by the Sunday Herald has been added to the Interviews Page.
Also an Andy Nyman interview has been added. Andy Nyman is one of Derren's co-writers and creator and directs Derren's stage shows as well. He is a very talented mentalist in his own right; please be sure to visit AndyNyman.com.

1st February 2005

  • Derren will be performing in the Comic Aid Tsunami Relief Concert, at the Carling Apollo Hammersmith, London on 22 February. I think the tickets sold out in 16 minutes but don't worry if you weren't quick enough and are not prepared to pay an extortionate amount on eBay for a CHARITY event, it will be televised sometime in the not so distance future.
  • It has been announced that Derren will be a guest on Parkinson, Saturday 26th February on ITV1. No doubt he will perform a few 'impromptu' effects - don't miss it!
  • I'm not sure if it has been officially announced but Amazon are pre-ordering Derren Brown - Trick of the Mind DVD. The release date is said to be 18th April 2005.

9th January 2005

  • Happy New Year everyone! A new year should bring about new beginnings and changes, so they say, so I have added a new section to the site, called My Thoughts. I hope to fill it with my thoughts, experiences and various aspects of magic and maybe a little about Derren (well, it's a website about him so he must feature somewhere!).

I realised that my views on magic had changed somewhat since making this site and that I didn't have a section to express them, so the new page has sprung up from the proverbial woodwork (or some hidden place in my frontal lobe, you decide!). I've written a few pieces already and they will be put there hopefully when time is a little more permitting. I also have many more ideas for pieces I want to write. I have no idea why I want to write but I just have this feeling of wanting to, probably to clarify my thinking process on my latest change of direction.

For the time being however, I have put my views about Derren Borwn: Messiah on the new page as I realised that if I didn't do it soon it would never get done. Please feel free to nag me about getting work done anytime you like; sometimes I need a kick start to get me going!

27th December 2004

  • Christmas has been and gone and the end of the year is nearly approaching, so I send a rather belated message of Merry Christmas and wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year. I hope you all had a fantastic time, received all the presents you hope for and enjoyed a well earned break (and I'm sure even Derren managed to fit one day off in his unrelenting schedule).

The year has past with such swiftness I feel as though I have been caught in pocket of space-time which has warped several times around me, tied in a knot and swung around in a sling shot. The past year has provided many happy as well as a few sad times, as I'm sure is the case for everyone, but we must retain and relish the better times and try to build on the all the other less happy times. We must also look ahead into the future and all do our part in making the world a better place; it may seem hard at times but if we each do a little then on the larger scale it will have a more forceful impact.

  • And on the note of looking forward to the new year, I urge you all to keep your diaries free for the 7th January as Channel Four will be showing another one-off special - Derren Brown: Messiah.

Derren left this message on his official forum:
"Hello, hope you all are fine and dandy. There has been talk of a new special and a series, so I'll let you know all I can at the moment. I've just filmed a special which is currently due to air on Jan 7th, and am also working on the next series, which is due to insult you in your spacious living rooms or trendy converted open-plan warehouse lofts some time around April. Can't tell you much about the special yet, but there's already been some inaccurate speculation in the Daily Mail as to what it is. They're way off the mark, bless 'em. So if you read that, don't take it at all seriously.
Have a happy Crimbo, and I hope you all get what you want. I have several thousand copies of the last dvd going cheap.
    Love,
    D.
PS Read some scandalous nonsense about me having a break before Christmas. I wish."

He has also been quoted as saying
"I'm not a Messiah: that's the point of the show. But could I be?"

The details of what is exactly going to be featured in the show are rather sketchy and are for the moments probably being kept under lock and key with 24 hour surveillance, but I'm sure nearer the date a few details will be leaked to the press to ensure a national outcry complete with a switch-board meltdown number of complaints to ensure Derren's national record is upheld and his Photoshop-edited satanic portrait is spread across the national press all in time for his new tour. Oh, where is Max Clifford when you need him?

Personally, I can see several routes the programme may take, all of which formulated to provide a controversial path and possible uneasy viewing for those who may not have "questioned their belief system", to use Derren's word's of wisdom. A few years ago (or was it longer, the years seem to merge) I reached the age where I began to question the common conceptions of religion and have spent many an hour debating with my mother therefore I will probably find the programme interesting on several levels but I can also see others being hugely offended, so if you are someone with a nervous disposition, I urge you not to watch the programme, instead make several calls to Channel Four and the Broadcasting Standards Commision. And if you ask nicely I may even provide a template so you can write to Ofcom instead.

Humm... I wonder what effects he will perform? Feed the five thousand with his sleeves rolled up? Make a man blind then make him see? Or even transfigurate!? No, seriously, I will really look forward to the 7th (as well as the newspapers the next day).
